New Associate Minister - Chris Moon PDF Print E-mail
Chris Moon
moon_100 Hello everybody! I tried to think of an introduction of myself and our family, but since we know so many of you so well, we probably don't need much of an introduction. We are very excited to be allowed to serve in this way with our church. As most of you know, I've been asked to serve as associate pastor at VCCC, focusing on youth programs. I'm looking forward to getting to know the young people of our church that much better!

We already have a lot of things in the planning stages for our youth group. One of those is digging deeper into God's Word to see what He has planned for us there. The Apostle Paul tells us, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile" (Romans 1:16). Not only does the gospel bring us salvation, but it also reveals the righteousness of God -- and that's a righteousness that comes by faith. So that's going to be our mission in youth ministry, to teach the gospel of Christ and bring young people to faith in God.

Now, a little about our family, for those who haven't gotten to know us well:

I grew up in Valley Center. Both of my parents worked for the school district. I played some sports (not well), played in the marching band and wrote for the school newspaper. The newspaper work eventually developed into a career for me. My wife, Mary, grew up in Dodge City, Kan. We met in college at Baker University. Mary didn't like me much at first -- but I finally was able to win her over! We've been married now for 10 years and have four awesome kids: Sophia (8), Anna (6), Isabella (5), and Sam (3). During this tme, I've worked at newspapers in Topeka and Wichita, and Mary has been a stay-at-home mom and very busy volunteer. She's an amazing woman.

But we've never lived a moment of our marriage without God. Looking back, we can see His guiding hand throughout our lives together. For all of that time, we've felt the call to some sort of ministry. We just didn't know what it would be! So we studied and served our church families as best we could, expecting Him to place us into his activity as He saw fit. About a year ago, Mary began serving as children's minister in the church. Shortly after that, I felt called to start working on a master's degree in theology from Southwestern College. We've also felt God working in our lives in a lot of other ways, too. But about two months ago, Pastor Chuck asked if we'd be interested in serving full time at the church. We didn't have much deciding to do!

And so now we're off and running. All the middle and high school students in our church are invited to come to Youth Group at 7 p.m. on Wednesday nights. We also are planning to re-launch a Sunday School class for our teenagers. More details about that will be coming soon.
